3 foot storm means Tahoe resorts are open for good
December 8, 2009
A powerful winter storm dropped three feet of snow on Sugar Bowl Resort overnight, with forecasts calling for another 10 to 14 inches over the course of the day today and into the evening. After opening for skiing and riding the past two weekends and closing operations midweek, resort management announced today that Sugar Bowl Resort will reopen permanently for the 2009/10 season on Tuesday, December 8th.
The White Pine, Jerome Hill, Christmas Tree and Mt. Lincoln lifts will all be in operation on Tuesday, with Nob Hill and Disney Express scheduled to open on Wednesday. With another storm forecasted to move in later this week, mountain crews will be preparing additional lifts and terrain for potential openings as the week progresses.

The arrival of Sunday’s storm has delivered over three feet of snow to Kirkwood Mountain Resort as of 12:00pm on Monday December 7, 2009, providing the resort with the opportunity to open more terrain for Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, Kirkwood will operate two chair lifts – Chair 5 (Solitude) and Chair 11 (The Reut) with intermediate and advanced intermediate terrain, along with a handful of terrain park features.
With another storm anticipated to arrive before the weekend, Kirkwood is currently planning to have eight chairs operational including the Timber Creek Base Area among several other resort restaurants and amenities.
