Tahoe: skiing’s most beautiful destination
January 29, 2010
This week Travelocity started its latest round of the Cabin Fever Sweepstakes by asking people to vote which ski destination is better, Salt Lake City or Tahoe. It’s a tough one. The Wasatch and the Sierra Nevada are both amazing for deep powder and great turns. Salt Lake has the greatest snow on earth. Yet there’s something special about skiing with one of the world’s rarest of lakes in view. In the end, my vote had to go to Tahoe, skiing’s most beautiful destination. Read more
A Call to Action, by Amy Harris
January 26, 2010
The basic resounding message from environmental news is that we are killing the earth. There is this idea that without humans a pristine harmonized world free of disaster and despair would exist. What I love and what drives my passion for food issues and organic gardening is the tangibility of life. Humans have the ability to transform, grow, renew, change, sustain, connect and share experiences just by coming together to perform one of the most instinctual and basic activities known not just to man, but all species—eating. In the Moment Episode II, by K.C. Deane
January 25, 2010
Athletes With A Cause is a way for competing outdoor athletes to raise money for charity while we train and compete. In the past two years we’ve helped raise over $15,000, which has been used to purchase a bi-ski for Wasatch Adaptive Sports in Utah, sending kids to ski school in Nevada, and supporting school sports programs in Healy, Alaska. This winter we’re raising money to send kids to ski camp in Nevada and Alaska, but we need your help!
No Olympics but still thankful, by Shelly Robertson
January 23, 2010
Well I have some bad news…I’m not going to be an Olympian. Yesterday I needed to get a podium and it didn’t happen…I’m pretty bummed. I’ve been skiing so well but for some reason the stars just weren’t aligned for that goal. The great thing is is that life goes on and I know there are many more life adventures and fun times to come. Read more
Getting things going up in Alaska, by Jesse Whitt
January 21, 2010
My name is Jesse Whitt; I was born and raised in Alaska. Fairbanks geography is not conducive to gravity sports and the climate is hardly cooperative. Temperatures are often well below zero and the surrounding hills are too lazy to be steep. Residing in Fairbanks I am not able to get out and snowboard as much as I would like, but I’m hoping to help provide that opportunity to others. Read more
Winter multidays in Idaho, by Mike Copeland
January 20, 2010
Well, it’s official. Everything is frozen here in the lovely state of Idaho. But just because it’s all icy doesn’t mean that there isn’t an adventure to be had. There wasn’t enough snow anywhere to get any snowboarding in. So there was only one thing to do. Go paddling, no matter how cold. Read more
A day to make me smile at Disabled Sports
January 19, 2010
You can get as deep as you want to about volunteering and our Action Rewards program. You can say it’s about doing good, making people feel better, making the environment better or whatever, but that doesn’t really get at the simplicity of why we all do it. Truth is, it just feels good. When I walk away from a day of volunteering, I’m smiling, and that’s all the reward I need. Read more
Silver Peak is more than just a brewery
January 18, 2010
Sierra Crest, Calif. – Not to take anything away from the delicious beer on tap at Silver Peak Brewery, but I’d rather spend a day out hiking and skiing its namesake mountain than a night drinking. With views of Lake Tahoe, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, Silver Peak backcountry is worth the price of entry. Read more
