chickaloon31Talkeetna Mountains, Alaska – The Chickaloon is a gorgeous, sea-foam green river which pours down from the dramatic granitic peaks of the Talkeetna Mountains in South Central Alaska. My first fly-in trip to this sweet little gem remains one of my favorite boating experiences. With rafts and kayaks in tow the Chickaloon is a one of those trips where everyone can enjoy the hiking, the scenery and the fun whitewater.

As an able bodied adult, these are things that I more often than not take for granted. Particularly because I can ride my mountain bike right out my back yard and into the mountains anytime I want. For many people though, biking isn’t just a special privilige that brings immeasurable joy, it’s an opportunity to work towards independence.

Late last week, all eyes were on Washington, D.C. as the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA) passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Thanks to the leadership of Chairmen Henry Waxman and Ed Markey, this historic climate and energy bill could transition America to a clean energy economy. But the legislation needs to be strengthened by the full House and Senate to ensure that America’s workers and communities fully benefit from it.
