Doing what we love in order to make a difference

March 30, 2009

Sprint US Freestyle National ChampionshipSquaw Valley, California – Spring is bittersweet season for me. It’s hard to say goodbye to winter and all the great days on the snow. This winter has been particularly special as we’ve worked with amazing people and resorts throughout the West to use our passion for skiing to make a positive difference in our communities. With over 400 volunteer hours created and over $4,000 donated to charity this season, I for one can’t wait for next winter.

Sonora Pass, California – All the pics are from Sonora pass except the powder turns, that was Castle Peak. We rode Castle peak Friday, then Sonora Pass on Saturday and Sunday. It was a good weekend, no injuries or broken sleds, the only issue we had were sleds running out of gas, but that is why we carry siphon holes.

Eastern Sierra, California – Spring is the season when the Eastern Sierra reveals just how special of a place it is. High in the mountains there is deep snow and ridiculous skiing. Lower down in the foothills the trails are dry enough for awesome mountain biking. Head down to the valley floor and world class rock climbing awaits. The real beauty is that even with a short trip to Mammoth Mountain and Bishop you can celebrate the fullness of life that this place offers by doing all three.

Skiing at KirkwoodClick on the photo to watch the slideshow

Kirkwood Resort, California – Spring in the Sierra Mountains is unlike anything else out there, especially at Kirkwood’s high elevation resort. Over the course of a few days it will dump 6 feet then before you know it you’re soaking up the California sun. What made the day even better was running into our buddy Casey Hakansson, owner and founder of Moment Skis, and skiing aggressive lines we’d never seen before. Read more

Reduce emissions and global warming, from Pat Baldwin

March 13, 2009

Right now, the Environmental Protection Agency is considering reversing a Bush administration decision that has prevented California and other states from taking action to reduce global warming pollution from cars.

The EPA is taking public comments before making a ruling. I signed a petition and sent it in using the We Campaign’s simple online tool. Let’s get as many comments as possible.

The Cascade Bicycle Club, by Phong Duong

March 13, 2009

Seattle, Washington – I strutted to the office door last night fully aware that behind it lay a fleet of mountain bikes in every imaginable state of carnage. Derailleur’s dangled from hangers, rims wobbled drunkenly, tires farted and wheezed, and shifters forgot the purpose for which they were intended. But by the end of the night they will all become the shimmering, gallant steeds ready to dash folks of all ages, size, and experience into the world of mountain biking.

Utah raftingSalt Lake City, Utah – If you haven’t heard of Utah House Bill 187, then you need to know right now.
