Remembering to count my blessings
February 28, 2009
Alpine Meadows, Calif. – I sat in my car all day. After one run for first chair and getting soaked by the rain at the base and wet snow at the top, I was over it. I still had an afternoon lesson with Disabled Sports USA Far West though. I sat there pissed off all day until Jeremy arrived. Then I saw the size of his smile after our first run and felt guilty for taking things for granted.

Usa River, Tanzania – I am in the process of launching a new film, Africa Revolutions Tour. All the proceeds from the sales of the film will go to the Sun Catchers Project, an amazing nonprofit which works in developing countries donating community sized solar ovens to areas in need. Energy deprivation is a HUGE issue and a reality to about a 1.6 billion people.

Desolation Wilderness, Calif. – What do you get when you combine bluebird skies, a foot of powder, trees, steep chutes and killer views of Lake Tahoe’s Emerald Bay? Only one of the best backcountry days ever! Maggie’s Peaks in the Desolation Wilderness are not to be missed. Well, unless you just don’t like epic days in the backcountry. But if that’s the case, what’s wrong with you?

Utah’s forsaken backcountry
February 16, 2009
Ophir Canyon, Utah – People from all over the country flock to Utah and resorts such as Snowbird to ski “the greatest snow on earth.” With only 45-minutes separating world class lines and the airport, it’s no wonder the resorts are the only thing people think of in Utah. The only problem is: there’s far more to Utah than Mormons and the Wasatch.
Nevada’s best backcountry
February 11, 2009
Ruby Mountains, Nevada – In the world of Nevada skiing, California generally dominates the conversation. As great as the Sierra Nevada may be, rather than 45-minutes West, it’s actually 4-hours East of Reno where Nevada’s best backcountry lies. The Ruby Mountains are like a little Yosemite but without the horrendous crowds and offer up a great weekend of sick lines and sweet powder.
The 1st Annual Wonderboy Award
February 4, 2009
It’s time to honor Life More Natural’s most dedicated contributor. Poet, photographer, inventor, model, trip leader, and of course motivational speaker, you name it, this guy gets it done. He’s an adventurer to the core who’s never afraid to fall flat on his face. If there’s one guy out there who embodies what it means to live a Life More Natural, Jason Motyka is him and is this year’s Wonderboy. Let’s all take a moment and say thank you for showing us the way.
Enjoy what you do

Lake Tahoe, Nevada – Today I started organizing a concert in South Lake Tahoe as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. I also managed to send 10-15 troubled kids to Kirkwood in exchange for volunteer work. On my way home, looking out across the lake, I realized how fortunate I am to enjoy my job. Not enough of us do. I’d venture to say that most of us loathe going to work.
Kirkwood stepping up its environmental conservation efforts, from Julie Koster
February 1, 2009
Kirkwood, Calif. – Kirkwood’s energy conservation measures resulted in a 35% reduction in use while the resort reduced its water use by over 2,000,000 gallons. Kirkwood has plans to install 20 wind turbines capable of generating more than 20% of the energy needs of the entire Kirkwood Valley. Kirkwood’s goal is to become the leading sustainable energy producer in the ski industry.
