Reno, Nevada – Having grown up in the brutal cold and unrelenting darkness of interior Alaska winters, there’s something deeply gratifying about warmth and sunshine on the last day of 2008. Today in “America’s Adventure Place” I could go mountain biking, skiing or even kayaking. A day like today is a rare, brilliant reminder that life, no matter what the conditions, should be enjoyed to it’s full extent. Though 2008 has been unbelievable, in 2009 let’s all make a resolution to get outside and enjoy life just a little more.

Keep the spirit alive in the coming year

December 25, 2008

Squaw Valley, California – This is the time of year for giving thanks for the blessings we receive and sharing those blessings with the people around us. Not to mention that the snow is finally here and the mountains are calling us. As we move into the new year, we’re looking to keep the spirit alive by trading lift tickets for volunteerism. Get involved in the Green Rewards volunteer program and get out on the mountain for free!

Embracing the challenge, by Ben Johnson

December 17, 2008

Snowbird, Utah – 252 days. It’s been 252 days since I broke my neck. 252 days since I last skied with friends. The last 252 days were stacked with challenges. With much work still ahead, I wanted to take a moment and celebrate the goals I’ve reached. On the same day that I returned to my skis, I had the great opportunity to present a $3,000 donation to Peter Mandler and Laura Cantin of the Wasatch Adaptive Sports program at Snowbird.

50k for cancer, by Jesse Whitt

December 16, 2008

Jesse Whitt, Athlete With a CausePoint Mackenzie, Alaska – I got into nordic skiing two winters ago during a typical frigid Fairbanks winter and have been hooked ever since. It’s my third season and I decided to enter a race to switch it up a bit. After a couple months went by I realized I could turn something I found fun into something that helped out others. I became really exited when I found out how easy it was to get involved at Life More Natural’s Athletes With a Cause program.

Ask Congress for a Green Christmas, by Van Jones

December 16, 2008

For many, this holiday season will be tough. But Congress could give a terrific present to thousands who desperately need work – by fully funding the Green Jobs Act.

Congress is deciding right now what to include in the economic “stimulus and recovery” package it will pass in the new year. This stimulus has the potential to create good, green jobs for America – but only if Congress includes full funding for the Green Jobs Act.

Please help us convince our national leaders to fund the Green Jobs Act as part of America’s rescue package.

Tell Congress to green the stimulus.

“If I can do this, I can do anything”

December 13, 2008

Alpine Meadows, California – For years I’ve taken the blessing of outdoor recreation for granted. As someone who has been fortunate enough to kayak, ski, hike and climb all over the world, I’ve never truly given back for all the things I’ve been given. I’m starting the process of giving back this winter by volunteering at Disabled Sports USA Far West. I have no doubt that I will learn as much helping to share the joys of skiing as I have from enjoying it myself.

This is about survival, from Jon Warnow

December 10, 2008

I’m writing again from the UN Climate talks in Poland, where one thing has become heartbreakingly apparent: for some people, these negotiations aren’t just about numbers and compromise and diplomacy. For some people, these negotiations are about survival.

Going to work for the American Cancer Society

December 5, 2008

Reno, Nevada – This week I started work for the American Cancer Society (ACS) as a Community Relationship Manager. It’s now my task to help raise money and awareness for one of the largest non-profit volunteer organizations in the country. ACS’ mission is to eradicate one of the most destructive diseases we know through research, education, advocacy and service. Life More Natural and our Athletes With a Cause charity program will now be a part of that mission. Read more
