Our Government: hurting Americans to help Big Oil
June 28, 2008
Washington D.C. – The past week has once again proven that our government cares more about the needs and desires of big oil companies than it does about the well being of the American people. Whether it’s bailing out Exxon and hurting Alaskans, or halting the development of the solar industry, the actions of the federal government this week have further jeopardized not only our environment, but also our security and our economy. Watson Lake Rim Trail, by Jim Rothstein
June 26, 2008
Lake Tahoe, Calif. – With the final patches of snow melting away, the Lake Tahoe mountain biking season is in full effect! To serenade this glorious occasion Oddo the Ring Bearer, Max Cartesian, the guy formally known as Chet, and myself, Daddypants, loaded our gear and headed west on I-80; leaving behind the rattlesnake infested, blazing hot trails of Reno, NV for the amazing views and epic riding of the Tahoe Basin. Chitina dipnetting: an Alaskan tradition
June 26, 2008
See Below for Fish Counts and Reports
Chitina, Alaska – For Alaskans, risking life and limb to fill the freezer with wild fish and meat is just part of the annual ritual. On the border of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the ritual means scrambling down a 60-degree, rain-drenched slope at 3 a.m., then balancing on a cliff wall just above a death torrent of a river with a massive net. All this to maintain a subsistence lifestyle and make it through the cold–dark winter with enough food to eat.
Charley River Slideshow
June 25, 2008
Charley River, Alaska – The Charley River, a National Wild and Scenic waterway, is a wilderness unlike any other I’ve seen in Alaska. With sheep scrambling on the cliff walls, peregrine falcons and eagles soaring overhead, bear and moose wandering the banks, and Arctic greyling, pike, and sheefish swimming the waters, the Charley is an epic journey into untamed country. Sixmile Fest and Athletes With a Cause, by Jeff Shelton
June 24, 2008
The Six Mile river festival was the first of hopefully many more awesome river festivals on a beautiful Alaskan river. Thanks to Timmy J and Jason W for putting on an awesome event! I was really happy with my performance in winning the downriver race but I was almost disappointed by the fact that I had missed out on all the carnage by being in the front of the pack. Read more
The week in review: Global warming, a problem for people
June 22, 2008
Even with all of their recent publicity, including last week’s cover of Newsweek, polar bears aren’t the only ones that global warming is bringing the hammer down on. Despite our efforts to destroy the planet, it’s really not the planet that we are bringing down, it’s us. Given only a little time without us, Ma Earth would be just fine. Read more
Reconnecting with wild Charley
June 20, 2008
Circle City, Alaska – Sometimes, a week away from the world is exactly what you need to appreciate it. At the end of a six day remote wilderness trip on the Charley and Yukon Rivers, appreciation was exactly what eight of us had for both the wonders of wild country, and the amenities of civilized life. Help Us and Win
June 16, 2008
As part of my final effort to graduate and receive my Masters in Journalism from UNR I need to write a research paper about what I’ve been working on over the past 6 months, but as with everything about my efforts, I need your help. I’ve composed a survey to help me better understand what I’ve accomplished so far and what I need to accomplish moving forward. As a reward for helping me out, I’m going to randomly pick one of the first 35 respondants to send a $30 gift card for REI. The survey only takes about 15-minutes and it would help us at LifeMoreNatural.com to get your feedback so click here to take the survey: Life More Natural User Survey.

At long last, the summer season for the Green Rewards program is ready to kick off. In the Reno/Tahoe area we’ll be giving away mountain bike lift tickets from both Northstar and Kirkwood resorts as well kayak rentals from Kayak Tahoe. Read more
Ship Creek Crackdown
June 13, 2008
Anchorage, Alaska – We knew that paddling down Ship Creek was technically illegal, but with no signs to tell us not to paddle a great whitewater canyon just outside of Anchorage, we did it anyway. Even when Johnny Law met us at the take-out and we faced possible court dates, we all said it was worth it, and now I’ve got a new environmental story to chase as well. Read more
