In my own words, by Ben Johnson

April 30, 2008

Salt Lake City, Utah – Whenever a doctor, or nurse, or P.T. discussed my 70 foot fall, I would allways correct them, saying ” I didnt fall…. I jumped” Any discusion of my “fall” in my hospital room would wake me from a long drifted drug indused sleep so I could make this all important distinction. Yes I jumped, and no I didnt fall…..and another thing ; it didnt hurt.. Read more

Off the couch and onto the river

Flake Rapid, South Fork Yuba RiverSouth Fork Yuba River, Calif. – I’ve heard about California kayaking for years now. “It’s the best there is…there’s nothing like it,” they say. While I’ve had the opportunity to paddle a couple of California rivers, the ones I have boated are more closely akin to Oregon’s boating than the classic Sierra Mountain streams that California is world famous for. Yesterday afternoon I finally got a taste of what the spring season holds for Golden State boaters. Read more

Girdwood, Alaska - On Saturday, March 29, while skiing at the Telepalooza extreme skiing competition at Alyeska, Ben Johnson, 34, of Carlo Creek, got himself in a tight spot. What he thought was a good line to ski, turned out to be full of ice and rocks, and he was left with a difficult decision: ski the rocky line and risk life and limb, or jump off a cliff and hope the landing would be soft. Earth Day, Reno, 2008
Watch and listen to some of the highlights from Reno’s Earth Day celebration at Idlewild Park. It was a chilly, though sunny day and people came out in mass to enjoy the music, crafts and environmental workshops.

Reno, Nevada – Despite the chilly temperatures, the sun was out and so were the people of Reno for the 2008 Earth Day celebration. Individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations congregated en masse at Idlewild Park along the banks of the Truckee River for the Sunday Celebration.

A solar powered stage provided the center piece as seven different bands kept the cool air filled with warm vibes. More than 100 booths were set up for shoppers and information seekers alike. People picked up plants, shirts and knowledge about how to compost, use solar power and even support local farmers. The Reno Bike Project had a bike valet for those that peddled to the event.

As gas prices skyrocket, Energy Fairs become national trend, by Mac

DEWEY BEACH, DEL – With more than 300 people filing through Crabber’s Cove convention center by mid-day leading up to Earth Day, sponsors at Delaware Renewable Energy Company said they were impressed by the turnout of the first Delaware Renewable Energy Fair.

Though turnout for the event was doubtlessly hindered by rainy April weather at the beach, DREC spokesman Gary Cannon said there was enough interest to consider making the fair a bi-annual event, and with a wind-farm coming to the coastline, residents are interested.

“(The fair is drawing) people that are tired of paying high electricity bills and are interested in producing their own power, Going Green and preserving the environment,” he said. “I am making energy in my house right now — not as much as when the sun was out, but panels work in any light.”

Thank you all for your continued support for Ben, his recovery and his continued efforts to raise money for disabled sports.
