Hiking to Hunter Creek falls
August 17, 2010
In the heat of the Reno summer, there’s no better way to cool off than jump in the water. If dealing with the crowds of Tahoe or the often drunken hooligans floating the Truckee River has gotten old, try a different approach: hiking to get away from the crowds. Hunter Creek falls offers a perfect opportunity to cool off with a spot all to yourself. Read more
The beginning… by Dylan Johnson

After visiting Sichuan and climbing Siguniang in 2008 with Chad Kellogg, I shared my experience with another close friend Jesse Huey. Jesse quickly became excited to climb the peak as well. We sat up late one October night in Seattle tracing photos of the north face, connecting the features of the incomplete 1981 Donini-Tackle-Schmitz line on the northwest face. It seemed to us the most compelling unclimbed line on the peak, and it fit Jesse’s and his partner Toby’s skills and motivations well.

South Warner Wilderness, Calif. – Near the tri-state border of Nevada, California, and Oregon is a little known and seldom visited wilderness area of resounding beauty. With the east side of the Warner Range draining to the Great Basin and the west side serving as the headwaters to the Pit River, the landscape itself is a border between regions.

Ascending Nevada’s tallest mountain
July 25, 2010
Great Basin National Park is a long way from anywhere. It’s actually two hours closer to both Vegas and Salt Lake City than it is to Reno. The seven hour drive out Highway 50 can seem tedious to the untrained eye, or in this case to the idiot who bought a car with broken air-conditioning. Once there though, the journey turns out to be a small price to pay. Read more

There are few things in life as rewarding as a hike into an isolated mountain valley. Spring in the Ruby Mountains slideshow

A quick glimpse into one of Nevada’s most beautiful places, Lamoille Canyon of the Ruby Mountains. Not far off Highway 80, worth the detour from Elko next time you’re passing through. In fact, it’s gorgeous any season.
Returning to Africa with a mission in mind, by Jesse Whitt

War, disease, starvation, genocide, with so many daunting issues in the world it’s easy to become overwhelmed and sit idly by. Where do you start? Who needs help the most? What can I do? Somewhere along the way I realized, for me, these questions are important but not as important as just doing something. Last winter I worked to send underprivileged kids in Alaska to ski camp. With our new Tanzania Solar Project, I’m now working to help kids on the other side of the world. Read more
Exploring Nevada’s oft ignored wilderness

Arc Dome Wilderness, Nevada – Hiking through cougar country on your own can be a little nerve wracking. I don’t mean the mid-40’s female on the hunt for fresh meat kind of cougar either, though that can be sketchy too. I mean the large predatory cats that can take down a grown man before he even knows it’s there. Read more
A tough end to an amazing winter, by K.C. Deane
May 25, 2010
So as some of you know, and maybe some of you don’t, I recently broke my neck while filming in Tahoe. We had just received 12-14 inches of new spring pow the day before and myself and Sean Collin went out to get turns. Turned out the day had more in store for us than either of us imagined.
